Frequently Asked Questions

New Clients / Getting Started

What can I expect in a session?

Sessions are playful, relational, and responsive to each client's unique needs. Children may engage with toys, art, digital games like Minecraft or Nintendo Switch, or sensory materials like clay and sand tray to express themselves and work through emotions. Parents and caregivers can expect a collaborative, strengths-based approach—sometimes joining sessions and other times receiving their own support to deepen connection and co-regulation at home. Our sensory-friendly office includes soft lighting, cozy seating, snacks, drinks, and lots of choice to help clients feel safe and in control.

Do you take insurance or offer superbills?

We are currently in network with Cigna Evernorth and United Health. We out-of-network with all other insurance but can provide a monthly superbill for you to submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement. Payment is due at the time of service, and we accept credit/debit, HSA/FSA cards, and electronic payments. Sliding scale options may be available —please inquire during your consultation.

Good Faith Estimate for Counseling Services

Under the law, health care providers are required to give clients who don’t have insurance, or who are choosing not to use insurance, an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including counseling and psychotherapy.

This is called a Good Faith Estimate and is meant to help you understand the cost of your care before you begin services.

Your Rights and Protections

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of non-emergency services.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than this estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • You can learn more at: www.cms.gov/nosurprises

Do you offer accommodations for sensory, communication, or accessibility needs?

Absolutely. Our space is designed to be sensory-friendly, with flexible lighting, visual supports, movement options, and quiet areas. We honor communication preferences (spoken, visual, device-assisted, etc.) and offer choices throughout sessions to promote autonomy and regulation. Please let us know in advance of any specific needs or preferences so we can create the most supportive environment possible.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes! We offer both in-person and virtual therapy to meet your family’s needs. Virtual sessions are especially helpful for older children, teens, and parents, and may include digital play therapy, expressive activities, and parent coaching. In-person sessions are held in our warm, sensory-sensitive office, designed to promote regulation and creativity through play and connection.

We also offer Walk and Talk!

Starting counseling can feel a bit like stepping into the unknown—kind of like opening a new book, entering a new level in a game, or walking into a room full of possibilities. It’s okay to feel nervous, curious, or even unsure. We're here to make the process feel a little less overwhelming and a lot more human—full of warmth, laughter, choice, and connection. You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin—we’ll figure it out together.

What should we bring to the first session, and how can we prepare?

You don’t need to bring anything other than yourselves, though you’re welcome to bring a comfort item, water bottle, or snack if that helps you or your child feel more at ease. If you’re joining virtually, try to find a quiet, comfortable space and bring any art materials or sensory items you'd like to use. And most importantly—no need to be perfect or prepared—just show up as you are. We'll take it from there with warmth, playfulness, and curiosity. 💛

Who do you work with?

We specialize in supporting:

  • Children (ages 2–12) navigating anxiety, neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, PDA, OCD), sensory needs, or emotional regulation

  • Parents and caregivers, especially those raising neurodivergent children or experiencing perinatal stress

  • Infants and toddlers (0–3) and their caregivers in dyadic, attachment-focused work

  • Neurodivergent mothers navigating pregnancy, postpartum, or parenting while honoring their own identities and needs

We use developmentally appropriate, neurodiversity-affirming, and trauma-informed approaches in all sessions.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask that you provide at least 24 hours' notice for any cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice (or no-shows) may be subject to the full session fee, as that time has been reserved just for you. We understand that life with kids (and nervous systems!) can be unpredictable—please reach out if you're experiencing an emergency or need to talk through options.

How do I book an intake session?

You can book an intake session by filling out the contact form on the website or emailing us directly at connect@nurturedpathways.net. Once we connect, we’ll schedule a free 15-minute consultation to make sure we’re a good fit, answer your questions, and get you set up for your first session.

Will I receive consent forms or access to a client portal?

Yes! After scheduling your intake, you’ll receive an email with access to our secure client portal. This is where you’ll complete all required intake paperwork, consents, and any parent/caregiver questionnaires before your first appointment. It’s easy to use and keeps everything in one safe place.
